Every day I try to accomplish something, however small, toward moving.
I sort something into keep/sell/give-away piles; I do one of the former; I learn something new about the details of visas/permits etc required when moving.
The divesting myself of stuff is the biggie. I am floored at what I have accumulated in 30 years in the USA. And I don’t even like to shop! I don’t collect anything, there is no decorating theme in my house. Actually most of my furniture was hand-me-down or is home-made. The famous early Salvation Army style of decorating. At least that part will be easy. Most of my furniture will go straight to the dump.
There is however THE DICE TABLE.
When we first came to Arizona we lived in a travel trailer in a RV park. This being Northern Arizona people come here to get away from the desert heat. Come fall the RV park was left to Low-bucks-operations and the Un-settled. Most of them answered to the name of Dan.
One of the Dans, specifically Dan Fontenot of Louisiana, a carpenter, one evening arrived with a bunch of scrap lumber. Expertly he put together a low table to accommodate our evening dice games.
The piece de resistance being a sunken middle, or rimmed side, depending how you want to look at it. Finally the dice were no longer flying hither and yon.
That table moved with us when we settled into this house. It served well as the coffee table for most of the years. Then one day it was converted into the table for the Fish tanks. Tanks hold water, water is heavy, this table will hold and elephant.
I never thought much of the table. I knew it for what it was, a table built as a lark for short use from scarp materials. Strangely enough visitors with what I consider “decorating flair” noticed the table and extolled its beauty. It apparently is a hot commodity. Must have aged better than some of us.
So what did I accomplish today?
Started a letter to the Mexican Consulate with questions regarding the dog’s health certificates an ports of entry/exit being different and how that affects the vehicle bond. Results to follow once I get an answer.
Sold my trusty raccoon/skunk trap through Craigslist.
Researched Mail Forwarding Services so I could structure a decent offer to my friend’s mother who kindly offered me her mailbox as future residence.
Encountered the Dreaded Blue Screen on two!!! computers. One is a candidate for a new hard drive and the other better not be! (Not much of an accomplishment)
Discovered that with a puppy the lines between mowing the lawn and vacuuming the carpet blur. Both require goggles and the sound is about the same. That is until the dog run is clean of sticks or the dog is done teething. Whichever comes first.
